There was recognition for its past and the future also. Ramanathan Krishnan, the primary star of Indian tennis, won the Lifetime Achievement Award along with Javelin throw prodigy Neeraj Chopra was deemed the top young opportunity of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Sundar Singh Gurjar composed for missing out on the Rio Paralympics at 2016 by becoming the first Indian to win gold in the World Para Athletics Championships – and has been termed Differently-abled Athlete of this year.

The Moment of the Year, voted on by viewers, was Jeakson Singh’s historic target for India from the FIFA Under-17 World Cup along with also the Match of the Year, voted by our jury, was Sindhu vs Okuhara in the epic closing of the World Championships.

The jury, that picked nine of the 11 awards, also comprised some of the greatest names in the Indian sport fraternity:

Abhinav Bindra, the only Indian to have won a single Olympic gold;

Bhaichung Bhutia, the very best Indian soccer player of his creation;

Anju Bobby George, the first Indian American to win a trophy in the Athletics World Championships;

Rohit Brijnath, that has covered Indian game in any way levels for the last 3 years; and ESPN’s senior author Sharda Ugra.
