About 92,700 BSNL, MTNL Employees opt for VRS Scheme

Nearly 92,700 employees of BSNL and MTNL have opted for voluntary retirement, which is expected to save about Rs 8,800 crore annually in salary bills.

The VRS scheme, which opened on November 4, will close at 5:30 PM on December 3.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said The merger would resultantly help the two companies to “provide better quality services to customers on a pan-India basis,”


MTNL operates in Delhi and Mumbai while BSNL is present in rest of India.

Under the proposed VRS formula, employees will get 100-125 per cent of the salary for remaining years of service, including pension, based on the retiring month wage.
